Magic Lantern Announces Improved 5D III and 7D Dynamic Range
The team over at Magic Lantern has really been on a tear lately with all of the awesome new features that are adding to Canon cameras. The latest of which is the news they released today that they have increased the dynamic range of the 5D mark III and the 7D by 3 stops. So on the 5D Mark III that means a total of 14 stops of dynamic range, pretty impressive.

Nikon VS Sigma Lawsuit: Get ready to see more Sigma lenses with OS Stabilization?
Nikon filed a lawsuit against rival lens maker Sigma back in 2011, accusing Sigma of patent infringement with relation to Nikon’s VR (Vibration Reduction) technology. Well today, Japanese online publication Jiji.com has reported that a Tokyo District Court judge has determined there was no patent infringement, and dismissed the case.

Ultra-Wide Lens News & Thoughts: 14-24mm VS 16-35mm f/2.8?
So, the rumored (and patented) Canon 14-24mm f/2.8 L has not yet appeared. A rumor floated a while ago that January 8th (during the CES trade show) would be a big announcement day for Canon, but alas only point-and-shoots were delivered. Plus a couple $4,000-$5,000 cinema lenses.
Canon MAP prices, and Nikon rebates
If you follow general photography industry news, (not just nerdy camera press releases, but the boring financials and other stuff) …then you’ve probably already heard about Canon’s MAP (Minimum Advertised Price) rules that were going to go into effect. Well, yesterday it became offiicial, and so those latest slashes in Canon pricing have gone back up to their original prices. To be specific, $2,200 and $3,500 respectively. OUCH!
5D mk3 AF point illumination: Firmware update coming April 2013?
One of the first things we noticed when we began testing the 5D mk3 was the un-explained, and to be honest downright annoying change in the way AF points illuminated during a “half-press” for autofocus / metering. Basically, ….the focus points don’t light up anymore. Not until AFTER focus ins confirmed in one-shot AF, and barely at all in AI-Servo mode.
