10 Mother’s Day Gift Ideas For Photography Lovers

By Hanssie on May 5th 2015

Next Sunday is the day we recognize mothers and mother figures everywhere for their love, dedication and the countless sleepless nights they’ve endured because of us. If you’re like me, you’ve haven’t remembered until now that you probably should buy a gift for good ole’ mom. Flowers are always an option, but they wilt and die, so why not get something your mom can actually use? Trust me, she probably doesn’t want another trinket on her charm bracelet or coffee mug with your photo on it. If she loves photography, here are some ideas for you.

1. Fujifilm INSTAX Mini 90 Neo Classic Instant Camera

This adorable instant camera is a party favorite and creates fun business card sized photos that make great keepsakes. If she doesn’t like the vintage look, the Instax comes in all different colors as well. Moms everywhere would love this camera, well, at least I would (hint, hint). (B&H, $179.99)

2. Kelly Moore Brownlee Camera Bag

Moms love Kelly Moore because her camera bags are stylish and functional. Not only does this dual toned bag look great and keeps your gear safe, it doubles as a purse. The best part is that it’s on sale for $30 off the regular price. (B&H, $169.99)

3. SLR Lounge Photography Workshop DVDs

Maybe your mom got a new DSLR for Christmas and still has no idea how to use it, or perhaps you’re tired of her using direct flash on all of her images. Why not give her some photography education? From now until Sunday, use the code mom2015 for 20% off the SLR Lounge Photography 101 DVD, Natural Light Couples DVD, or the Newborn Workshop DVD.

4. An Instagram Friendly Photo Book

Make an Instagram-sized book of images for that special mom in your life or surprise her with her own Instagram images with this simple Instagram friendly book from Artifact Uprising. (Artifact Uprising, Starting at $17.99)

5. Canon 5D Mark III Personalized Miniature Necklace

A Canon 5D Mark III might be out of your budget, but this miniature sized necklace isn’t. Plus you can personalize it with a photo of the kids, or yourself. (Etsy, $20)

6. Scarf Camera Strap

Glam up your mom’s camera strap with this designer scarf camera strap. It’s pretty and feminine and much better than the ugly camera branded strap her camera came with. (PhatStraps, $38.95)

7. MeFOTO DayTrip Tripod Kit (Purple)

Not every photographer wants a plain old black tripod. Some ladies like to have photography accessories that stand out and are different than everyone else. This MeFOTO lightweight mini tripod comes in many colors. I especially like this purple one. (B&H, $99)

8. MAMARAZZI Women T-Shirt

It’s a fact; moms love taking photos of their kids. Why not get her a shirt that proclaims it loudly and proudly? If that’s not her thing, there are plenty of other photography related T-shirt options to choose from. (Click and Blossom, $26)

9. Pinch of Yum’s Tasty Food Photography Book

If the mom in your life loves to photograph her meals before she eats (or is that just my mom?), why not get her a book full of tips and tricks for her to step up her food photography game? This one from Pinch of Yum is a favorite. (Pinch of Yum, $29)

  1. Ralph Hightower

I think I may have inherited the photography gene from my Mom. I remember as a teen discovering the Polaroid bellows camera and taking some photos with it. I know that I inherited the use of proper English grammar from her since she was a high-school English teacher; misspellings, improper use of English grammar jump out at me when reading blogs and web articles. At her service, I shared a “Dennis the Menace” cartoon about “can” versus “may”.

Anyway, she bought me a Polaroid Swinger camera that I used in high school. After college and in the work force, I got married. My wife brought a 110 camera into the household. A few years later (1980), A Canon A-1 was added to the household. I still shoot with the A-1. Recent camera additions have been the F-1N and 5D Mk III.
