I met the petite blonde at WPPI, a large annual conference for wedding and portrait photographers in Las Vegas. She was surrounded by a group of people, but her trademark blonde hair, newspaper boy hat and bright smile lit up the hotel bar where many gather after a long day of walking the trade show floor and sitting in classes soaking up the teachings other photographers. There’s just an energy about Dixie that you can spot a mile away and comes through out her images, making them stand out from the rest.

Having been in business such a short time, Dixie has amassed the kind of success that other photographers in the same genre never even reach. Her photography journey first began when, at 12 years old, she received a Nikon FG, and soon began spending countless hours in the darkroom. She began her business in college and in just 5  years, Dixie is a Nikon ambassador, is sought after by many major brands and travels the world for her shoots. She also is asked to speak and teaches workshops around the world, such as the Fstoppers’ Bahamas workshop earlier this summer.

The following video created by Albert Ayzenberg of A.A. productions from the #BehindtheGlass series, is a brief interview with Dixie where she talks a bit about her path to success in the commercial photography world. The 3 and a half minute video is definitely worth a watch for some inspiration and insight into the career of a successful photographer.
