By Hanssie on July 6th 2014

In this week’s YouTube roundup, we are going to showcase some of our most inspirational interviews with some amazing photographers. If you don’t subscribe to our YouTube channel, you should check it out so you don’t miss our great tutorials, reviews and interviews!

1. Paralysis and Photography | Kevin Young’s Road to Recovery

If you haven’t seen this very inspiring interview with photographer Kevin Young, take a moment and check it out. In 2011, Kevin was out with friends at the beach when in a freak accident, Kevin broke his neck and drowned. In the 9 minute interview, Kevin shares his story from being paralysed to his road to recovery, picking up a camera as therapy and eventually shooting the wedding of the nurse who saved his life on the fateful day.

Joel is a true inspiration and in this video interview, Joel sat down with us to talk about how photography played a major role in shaping his life from early on. He also talked about the kind of mindset needed to become successful in the photography business.

Jeremy is truly an inspiration, and in this interview we talk through several topics including: how Jeremy got his start in celebrity photography, concepts and visions behind shoots, what photographers need to stand out, favorite gear, and much more. Enjoy!

In this interview, we chat through how Gene started his business and how he markets to potential clients. We chat about his favorite tools of the trade, lighting techniques, and even take several live questions from SLR Loungers!

I enjoyed these, and have taken an online course by Joel Grimes before. I think one has to be careful to look too much into other peoples’ work and styles. The key words are “too much.” I think there is a needed balance in looking at other photographers’ “stuff” and getting out there and shooting and learning through experience – the triumphs and failures, the mehs and wows. For me, what I get from sites like this one and listening/looking at other photographers is not so much to look at their style per se, but to expand my own creative horizon and knowledge that gives me “space” in order to make me better – if I then choose to get out there and work and act upon it. I think it is VERY important to draw inspiration from OTHER sources such as one’s own faith, life experiences, the cosmos (nature), family, relationships, fine art, music, literature, dance & ballet, etc., ad infinitem. I hope SLR Lounge offers occasional peeks into and sprinkles of other non-photographic artists – just to gain and expand our horizon.
