VALENTINE’S DAY GIFT GUIDE FOR HIM: 7 GIFT IDEAS FOR YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER MAN

By Tanya Goodall Smith on January 29th 2014

Welcome to Time Out with Tanya, where I’ve put my fast paced graphic design career on hold in favor of adventures in motherhood. I’m capturing every moment on camera and you can come along, if you’d like. Sign up for my weekly email here so you’ll never miss a Time Out.

Valentines-Day-Gifts-Man-Photographer

Ok, ladies, now it’s your turn to think about what to get for your photographer guy for Valentine’s Day (if you happen to celebrate it by exchanging gifts). Here’s my Valentine’s Day Gift Guide for Him: 7 Gift Ideas for your Photographer Man. I chose items I’m pretty sure any guy photog would love. And, in case you missed it, check out my VALENTINE’S DAY GIFT GUIDE FOR HER.

1. Clever Photography Tee

If you can’t afford a new retro looking camera, like the Nikon Df, for your stylish photographer guy, give him a funky t-shirt with the camera printed right on the front. This is totally campy and cool, in my opinion.

2. The World’s Most Versatile Camera

Even my non-photographer husband would love a GoPro. Who wouldn’t? Capturing all the action of his extreme sports or pyrotechnic experiments will be easier than ever with this tiny, rugged camera.

3. The Gift of Knowledge

Learning something new everyday is my favorite part about photography. Consider giving your guy a photography class or workshop. If you can’t send him to an actual class, maybe a DVD like A Comprehensive Guide to Professional HDR Photography from SLR Lounge will do the trick. Whether he’s a professional photographer or an avid enthusiast, this 13 hour workshop on DVD will guide him through every step of creating amazing HDR photographs from prep to post.

4. More Storage

Every photographer needs more data storage, right? The compact size of these WD My Passport Ultra 2TB Portable External Hard Drives with auto and cloud backup options, make them so handy for carrying along with a laptop anywhere he goes. They come in a variety of colors, in case red is not his thing…

5. A Sturdy Camera Bag

If you could only choose one camera bag to give your Valentine, I’d go with a backpack style. Especially if he’s frequently traveling or going out on location. The Lowepro Fastpack has a place for everything (including a laptop) and is water resistant to protect his gear in inclement weather.

6. The Answer to All His Questions

In Photography Q&A, Zack Arias, a respected and trusted voice in the photography industry, answers over 100 questions that he fielded directly from the public. Questions range across all aspects of the photo industry: gear, marketing, street photography, vision, pricing, branding, light, models, work/life balance, technical advice, and much more. Sounds like an a great gift for the photographer who wants to get started on the right foot or improve his photography knowledge. This would be a great gift for the ladies, too! (hint, hint, if anyone wants to give me a present…)

7. Flexibility and Hold

No, I’m not talking about hair care products. I’m referring to the ever so handy flexible tripod. The Joby GorillaPod is a good one. This little thing is light, small and will allow him to stabilize his camera in unconventional or tight spaces. Just make sure you get one that will support the weight of whatever camera he uses.

So, think your special photographer would like any of these? What’s on your wish list?
