Need a Makeup Artist or Hairstylist On Call? There’s An App For That…

By Hanssie on July 8th 2014

Every woman needs her own Glam Squad…

And every photographer needs a Glam Squad readily available.

It has happened to me a time or five before where I had a styled photo shoot planned and the makeup artist bailed last minute or the hairstylist got another job and couldn’t come, or whatnot. I eventually made enough friends in the industry and after a while made solid connections of reliable people that knew many other reliable stylists that I could call and count on to show up for the shoot. But now, without having to spend years building your book of stylist referrals, there’s an app for that.

Within an hour, you can have a hairstylist or makeup artist at your door for a pretty affordable price with the app, GLAMSQUAD. You can choose the look you want in the style menu from – the “Bombshell” hairstyle paired with “The Siren” look for makeup or you can select your own customized look. All stylists are screened and trained and the prices are pretty reasonable. For $50, plus a 20% tip, all done through the app, you can get a quick blow out in the comfort of your living room. Or book a makeup artist for your photo shoot. Especially handy for those last minute cancellations. The app has been around for a few months, but they just added the makeup artist feature. and there are plans to include grooming for the men out there as well.

Why didn’t some one think of this sooner?

The app only works on the iPhone and iPad right now, but hopefully they will expand to other phones soon. You can download the free app HERE at the iTunes store.

Well, Glam Squad is a great app. Another great mobile as well as web application is Row A where you get professional hair stylists on call and at you demand right at your doorstep. It is an e-commerce booking and scheduling website which is also available in the form of web app. A good competition to Glam Squad.

So many apps not available for android. I would definitely use this app.

Hopefully this gets released for Android soon. I live in an area where I think stylists/make-up artists are a bit scarce – and it would be very nice to be able to find someone locally to work with.

The fact that they added makeup artists as another service is just awesome. Has anyone tried these guys yet and photographed the results?

Well I guess that’s another bonus as being a hairstylist in my former career. I can always do some hair if there’s no stylist on set. Actually that’s how I got my start in photography, just wanting to document my hair work. Maybe I should do a basic hair video for photographers :)

That would be great actually Josh. Im thinking of starting a Cosmetology course after I am finished my current classes just to have that knowledge if things do go south for a shoot!
