Outdoor Reception – Daylight | Reflector Pin Lighting

Using a reflector for pin lighting is great when shooting in broad daylight, but you will probably need an assistant. Here are the steps and considerations for using a reflector this way:

  1. Shoot from the shadows: Frame and compose
  2. Set desired exposure
  3. Add to existing light direction
  4. Silver (bright) vs. white (fill)
  5. Analyze with highlight alert

However you choose to light your subjects (details), keep the lighting consistent. Try not to jump from using a reflector to a flash to a constant light in a single scene. Choose your modification tool and try to stick to it. Doing so will help you create a more cohesive set of images, which will look better when published on a blog or printed across a spread in an album.
