
Near Vs. Far Illumination
Where you place a light in relation to the subject that your illuminating can create drastically different outcomes when photographing nightscapes (or the Milky Way). When the light is too close to the subject in a long exposure, chances are the subject may be overexposed. By placing the light source farther away, the light will fall more softly across the subject, creating a more interesting look.
