Moving Pinned Light
If fixed pinned lighting is not an option, the next best thing is moving pinned lighting. This style of lighting only takes one minute to set up and can work in any scene/location, but it also requires a stand or an assistant. The techniques here are similar to those discussed in the section on grand entrance but with slight variations. As always, communication with the team (specifically the assistant) is key.
Here are some more key tips when using this lighting style:
- Light position can be fixed or mobile
- Maintain constant distance between the assistant and the shooter
- 45-90 degrees off-camera
- With constant lights, watch shutter speed to avoid blurry movement
- Constant lights should only subtly override ambient lighting
