Indoor Reception – Dramatic High Color Ambient | Correcting/Pinning With Constants

How do we handle “extreme” colors in ambient lighting? We overpower them. Here’s how (and keep in mind, you can choose your weapon in regards to whether you have/prefer flashes, constant lights, etc. Just remember that constant lights are usually less powerful than flashes, so the distance between the light and the subject – such as a floral centerpiece – will vary depending on the light source you’re using to add light):

  1. Shoot from the shadows: Frame and compose
  2. Expose for desired ambiance (control color)
  3. Find existing light direction
  4. Add controlled light via grid/zoom
    1. Constant = Flash at 1/16 to 1/32
  5. Analyze histogram/highlight alert
