Dramatic Environmental Portraits | Shot with Flash
Our Dramatic Environment Portraits are intentionally underexposed to capture rich color depth and showcase interesting shadows. Apply this technique to your portraiture by framing your subject in shadow and using light to carve them out of the background. The off-camera flash will create an area of contrast, but be sure to follow the natural light direction. In dramatic environmental portraits, we expect a limited dynamic range and our bias is to preserve as many highlights as possible.
When we utilize this technique for dramatic motion images, particularly with composite images, we want to make sure that the area around the subject remains still. Make your post-processing life easier by directing your client to sit in an area that won’t be affected by shutter drag and maintain correct exposure for each shutter speed.
