Dance Floor Spots

Beware the dance floors spotted with crazy lights! When faced with the challenge of overpowering ambient dance floor lighting, drop your ISO and increase flash power. If you’re bouncing the flash and can’t get it to recycle fast enough, consider purchasing and using an external battery pack. If that is not an option, you can always use direct flash to overpower the dance floor spots. Try putting an off-camera flash on a monopod (if you have an assistant, or a light stand if you don’t) and placing the flash in close enough proximity to light the subject sufficiently at a lower flash power (such as 1/16).

In post, if the colors are out of control, process the image as a black and white or adjust the hues and saturation using the HSL module in Lightroom.
