Chapter 6 Intro | Transcription

Welcome to Chapter 6, well we’re going to start getting crazy. Chapter 5 was all about learning how to do direct flash, direct flash done right and modification. We learned a ton about modification in chapter 5. Now, we’re going to take this step further. Now, rather than doing direct flash we’re no longer pointing this at our subjects, we are going to be pointing off to the side, well whatever side, top, bottom, left right, we’re going to be bouncing. You want studio light? Just bounce. This chapter is all about bouncing and showing you different bounce techniques, different modifiers, and how we can shape and turn that light into something that looks like a two or a three light set up, quite simply.

All right, so let’s go over to what we’re going to be talking about. We’re going to start first by comparing and then showing you the differences between direct flash versus bounce flash. We’re going to go into balancing off of say a silver balance, and show you how bouncing off of silver can actually give you more light than white but there are differences in the overall quality of light. The spectacularity like what we talked about before. We’re going to go over soft light bounce and using it to create a very natural and very soft overall look. Also, going over overhead bounce so I’m basically shifting the bounce position to create different types of lighting scenarios where lights coming top down, left and right, from corners and so forth.

Using all these techniques we can create all the different types of light setups that we talked about much earlier in Chapter 3, we were talking about understanding lighting. Finally we’re going to end with event bounce, which is things that … basically when you’re out in event or shooting journalistically these are techniques that you can use to bounce even when you think you have no other option. All right, so let’s go ahead and moving in Chapter 6 now.
