Case Study #6: Utilize Your Second Shooter
Whenever possible, we suggest utilizing your second shooter during your couples portrait session. Having a second shooter available to capture creative angles will allow you to confidently focus on your job and not worry about getting too much of a variety. You can even have them create an entirely different lighting setup and have the couple switch their attention to them if necessary.
Make sure that your second shooter is aware of your current focal length in order to get a wider variety of images and compositions for the portrait set. This is often the biggest mistake we see occurring with newer shooters and assistants because they aren’t paying attention to the lead. Communication is key here when trying to switch from the lead’s main angle to the second’s new angle.
