Case Study #1 – B&W Is Your Last Resort
In this case study we are going to discuss why post-producing your images in black and white should be the last thing you rely on. We choose to make things black and white to highlight powerful moments, to preserve a classic and timeless feel to the image, however, there are times when black & white images can actually save you.
In this example we are dealing with unpleasant hotel bathroom lighting and we intentionally chose to shoot it so that it could be salvaged as a black and white image. You can follow along with me to see that even with alterations in lighting, the color in the image isn’t worth preserving, which is a tell-tale factor as to when an image is best served as a black and white. Chapter 10 is our full post production chapter where we will show you how we post-produced the images in this workshop series.
