Camera and Exposure

Here is a quick guide to help you get a proper exposure when tethering your camera to Lightroom:

  • Manually set LCD brightness. When you’re shooting indoors, you can lower the brightness; do the opposite when you’re outdoors.
  • Always refer to your histogram. Regardless of the brightness of your LCD screen, the histogram will let you know if you’ve retained shadows and/or highlights. Just know that the histogram may lean more to the left or right depending on the brightness of the background.
  • Always use highlight alert. The highlight alert will reveal which highlights have been blown out.

With a constant light setup, you can check all of these in real time when using ‘Live View’ on your camera.
