What’s in Our Camera Bag

By Pye Jirsa on May 17th 2011

For some reason photographers love seeing what’s in other photographers’ camera bags. For some it’s just a curiosity, for others it’s a matter of pride… like comparing cars or spousal hotness. Regardless, we want to emphasize that photography is really not about the equipment. Well, kinda.. for the most part… I mean, in this video, we are going to show you what’s REALLY in our bags.

We believe that you CAN create great imagery with any camera given the right knowledge of composition, lighting, and post production (see the iPhone Fashion Shoot). However, the key word in the last sentence is “CAN.” Though you may have the knowledge and ability, why wouldn’t you make your life easier with top-of-the-line equipment? Furthermore, there are just somethings you can’t do without that certain lens or that certain level of ISO performance in your camera body. Lastly, being a minimalist as far as equipment is no excuse to not properly backing up your shoots during the shoot or having cheap memory cards fail.

Basically, get some decent gear and learn how to use it well.

Below the video is a full listing of the photography equipment we use for our shoots (primarily wedding photography):

You guys almost made it, I thought the punch line was going to be each of you opening a mug of hot coffee…one of the mugs that look exactly like a camera lens (amazing replicas). THAT would have been the perfect ending. None the less I enjoyed the humor and the info.

Okay, I paused the video half way through to compose that somewhat sarcastic post but I literally cannot watch this anymore.  That is so f***ing stupid.  Anybody who watches this and can sit through is a stronger man than I.  But anybody who watches it and finds it the least bit amusing has seriouly got to be retarded.   I’m genuinely pissed off right now this is so idiotic.  Goodbye.

Wow, the constant unveiling and opening of Coke Zero cans to reemphasize their need for caffine was not irritating at all.  On the contrary, I’m literally rolling on the floor laughing my you know what off.  These guys are so cool and funny.  I was interested mainly in learning about what camera gear professional photographers use for their work but just when I started losing interest they opened one can after another and in so doing added so much to the overall presentation.  In no way was it the least bit distracting, unfunny or utterly without a point.  Bravo.

I had to watch that video twice, the first time around I got distracted by the coke cans from no where. That was ingenious!

how much did coke pay for the product placement?

  11. water drinker wife just returned from garden and I showed her your coke-video :-D – thank you so much, we were falling down from laugh, my wife said “it’s a joke, isn’t it? are they junkies or clowns or something? so funny, that can’t be for real!”. So, keep doing videos like this, it’s good for family laugh at the evening, the pity is, one can miss easily the photography point, while watching fascinating how you guys enjoy opening all the lethal juices :-D!

Folks, nice video, but totally sick coke promotion – at the beginning, it was pretty annoying,
but then after you opened the 100th bottle I was laughing hard :-D. You
look a bit unhealthy guys, almost a joke-video or sickness or something; come
on, one can’t see the flash trigger, but of course a zoom at the 101th
bottle is there, as from every box and bag comes a bottle filled with a
chemical mixture, somehow scaring. I’m wondering how much $ pumped those guys into this video to make you look this foolish :o). Anyway, thanks for sharing, Andrej

Part joke, part informative, part awesomeness =)

To be honest, the jokes are a way of helping people sit through the entire video, cause it’s rather long. Then, because the jokes are distracting, you have to watch it again to find out all the equipment, haha genius! =)

    No, but seriously…
