In today’s Lightroom 4 tutorial and Mixology episode we will be showing you guys how to get create a warm, slightly punchy vintage effect. Now, in my opinion, I typically like to save any sort of vintage effect for photos that don’t have a lot of modern elements to them already. That way the vintage look is more convincing to the viewer. I feel like if you apply vintage effects on images that have modern elements, there is sort of a disconnect between the subject and the production style. But, either way have fun, play around with it and let us know how you like it.
This is actually one of the Mixology presets that comes in the LR4 Preset System v1.1 (36 Warm Punchy Vintage under the Stylized Color subsection). As usual, we will show you guys how we created the effect using Mixologies for LR4 Preset System users, and we will also show you guys how to create the effect using the standard Lightroom 4 sliders for non LR4 Preset System users.

After applying the Preset
The Lightroom 4 Preset System is extremely powerful because it allows you to create a virtually endless variety of looks with just a few simple clicks which you can then save to your 00 MY MIXOLOGY Folder. In each of these episodes, we will create one of these looks with just a few clicks, then we will save it out as a new Mixology in MY MIXOLOGY. We are going to cover a variety of styles and effects, so feel free to name and organize your MY MIXOLOGY folder contents however you like, as that folder is designed to be your personal space for all your favorite mixologies.

Mixology Recipe
For those that don’t want to watch the video, here are the steps to achieve this effect using the Lightroom 4 Preset System. As always, start with the Standard Import Preset which should be applied to each image when you first bring it into LR4 before applying the settings below:
1. BASE ADJUSTMENTS –> 12 Portrait Flatten (Base Tones)
2. BASE ADJUSTMENTS –> 22 Light Soften skin (Detail)
2. BASE ADJUSTMENTS –> 42 Neutral (Blacks)
3. BASE ADJUSTMENTS –> 56 Light Desaturation (Saturation)
4. Warm Curves –> 41 Amber (Vintage Punches)
That’s it! Now just save it out in your MY MIXOLOGY folder with a cool name of your liking and you are done!
