How We Shot It

Long Exposure Star Trails on a Moonless Night

Continuing with the recent “How We Shot It” theme of long exposures, today we have something quite different from last week’s 30 sec. sunset tide pool portrait. While shooting in broad daylight for 30 seconds or longer is a challenge because it requires a very dark neutral density filter such as a 9-stop or 10-stop ND, shooting on a moonless night at the bottom of the Grand Canyon is even darker!

DIY Newborn Photography | How We Shot It

Before I go into too much detail about how exactly I shot this Image I wanted to take a minute and talk about WHY I took this image. Three and a half months ago my wife and I welcomed the newest member of our family to the world, and being a photographer I wanted some of those awesome newborn portraits that I always see on Facebook and Pinterest. I thought I could do it myself. How hard could it be, right?
