By Anthony Thurston on December 23rd 2013

If there is one thing that I know to be true about the year 2013, it was that there were more beautiful timelapses released than I can count. Technology has advanced to a point now that just about anyone with a DSLR can create an awe inspiring timelapse video that will knock your socks off. Now that the year is drawing to a close let’s step back and take a look at the top 5 timelapse videos of 2013 (In chronological order).

1.  New Zealand Landscapes Volume II

Bevan Percival of Primal Earth Images created a stunning landscape timelapse of the New Zealand terrain. This one really is something special.

2. MirrorCity

timelapse-2Photographer Michael Shainblum has been specializing in mirrored images and video for around 5 years. In 2013 he took his mirroring talents into the Timeplase field, and the results blew my mind.

3. Mauna Kea Heavens

timelapse-3Atop Hawaii’s biggest Island, Mauna Kea, lie an array of telescopes that make up one of the foremost observatories in the world.  Most of the time, viewing conditions are some of the best in the world!  At about 14,000 ft elevation the observatories experience reduced light pollution and increased visibility.

4. Breathtaking Timelapse Of The American West

shane-black-timelapseOver this last summer photographer Shane Black and two of his friends left their jobs to spend a 2 month trip travelling the country taking pictures and teaching workshops. Over the course of that two month trip the team traveled through 32 states, visited 13 national parks, and drove close to 13,000 miles.

5. The Longest Way
