We have all heard about the new Sony A7 and A7r by now, the world’s first modern mirrorless full frame camera with auto focus. Sony made waves when they announced the new bodies, and it appears that the gamble from Sony has paid off.
According to Sony Alpha Rumors pre-orders on the new A7 have surpassed 200% of what Sony estimated they would be. This means that Sony has sold 3 times as many as they thought they would at a this point, that is a stark contrast to Nikon’s new Df for example which has had dismal pre-orders.
According to most of the reviews that I have seen people are generally loving the new Sony A7 and A7r with the exception to a few things here and there, namely the AF performance. Despite this the camera has still been knocking it out of the park with pre-orders, which says to me that Sony’s pricing strategy for this camera was perfect.
One has to wonder though, with 200% more being ordered than expected, how is Sony going to keep up with the demand for these new bodies? If you have already ordered one or are planning on ordering one I would plan on delays due to a shortage of bodies. I am sure Sony has already ramped up production but still, 200% is a lot more than they were expecting, so just be prepared for some possible delays due to low stock.
