Korean group Rock ‘n Roll Radio recently worked with Manchul Kim Photography on the album cover for their latest album’Shut Up And Dance’. The concept for the shoot was a rather spooky graveyard utilizing lots of smoke and green gels to give it an ominous look.
In a great behind the scenes video below you can see how exactly the team went about shooting for this cover. It is not an instructional behind the scenes, so you have to pay attention to the lighting, positioning, etc to figure it all out but you get a pretty good look at most of the lighting setups and configurations.
In the screen grab above you can see one of the lighting setups. Two strip banks lighting from the sides with what looks to be a bare flash/strobe in the back for separation and you even see the camera so you can understand the angle he is shooting from. This sort of thing could easily be recreated with gear like the Westcott 12″ x 36″ Strip Bank being combined with something like alien bees. Check out the full btsv below to see some more setups:
