Ruby: Life, Death, and Reincarnation in this Amazing Stop Motion Video

By Anthony Thurston on November 10th 2013

Skilled special effects makeup artist Emma Allen has produced this amazing stop motion video which depicts a woman age, die, decay, and then reincarnate. The evolution of the video takes place on the face of the women and it is one of the most unique stop motion videos that I have seen in a while.

The video took over 5 days for Allen to produce. During that time Allen meticulously painted and photographed her face to get the frames needed to create the final video, which you can see below.

Ruby from Emma Allen on Vimeo.

An animated self-portrait exploring the idea of rebirth and illustrating the transfer of energy from one incarnation to another. I painted this stop frame animation on myself over 5 days, using some face paints, a mirror and a camera.
