Red Epic KO’d by Concert Laser

By Anthony Thurston on July 13th 2013

Word to the wise, steer clear of concerts where lasers will be used. At a concert in Chicago recently there is word that not one, but TWO Red Epics were rendered useless by concert lasers. All it takes is a moment of exposure and your camera’s sensor is toast.

If you need any proof check out the video below which was shot from the Red Epic mentioned above. You can see in the video the camera is functioning perfectly until it sweeps too far and into the Laser’s path. All it takes is the laser hitting that lens and the sensor was rendered unusable. Lets hope they had insurance.

As you can see, even a $20K Red Epic is rendered useless, just think what it would do to your DSLR. So next time you think about taking the camera to a concert remember this and take the P&S with you instead.
