For those of you who are Andy Warhol fans, I have some exciting news for you. Multiples Inc, a fine art gallery located in Denmark, has recently announced the release of a limited edition of rare and previously unpublished photographs of Andy Warhol.
These photographs were beautifully taken by Los Angeles based fine-art photographer, Marshall Swerman. In an opportunity we could only dream of, Swerman was given the chance to spend time with the famous pop artist at his New York studio, called The Factory, in the mid 60’s.
The photographs of the very mysterious Andy Warhol and his entourage of Superstars were discovered by Peter Hvidbert, the owner of Multiples Inc. After coming across Swerman’s work he found that it had actually never been published nor been available to the market for purchase. Soon after, Swerman produced a limited edition of exclusive Warhol prints for Multiples Inc. Each black and white image is from an edition of ten, signed and embossed by the artist.
Swerman, a self-taught photographer, began taking photographs in 1966 with a Pentax Spotmatic. He later studied filmmaking and videography at the School of Visual Arts and The New York School of Photography. His work has been widely published and he is particularly well known for his photographs of the culture of the late 60’s through to the mid-70’s. Finger on the pulse, he was also one of the first photographers to document the phenomenon of graffiti in New York City.
