Photographer Makes Action Figure of Himself in Brilliant Marketing Move

By Hanssie on November 22nd 2013

The first action figures were made in the 60’s by Hasbro to market their G.I. Joes to boys who were anti dolls. Since then, there seems to be action figures of everyone, from Jesus to Hilary Clinton. But do you have an action figure of yourself?

One photographer does.

As far as super creative marketing ideas goes, Swedish photographer, Jens Lennartsson takes the cake. His marketing team is comprised of himself – 400 miniature versions of himself- to be exact. Jens realized that he needed something that stood out to a potential client, and a piece of paper just wouldn’t do the job. So, he hired a company to help him design his own action figure.

Complete with it’s own carrying box, stand and guide book, the “GI Jens” are sure to grab the attention of the ”  inspiring, cool and interesting people” in the agencies and magazines that Jens is seeking business from.

Jens explains in detail the process to making his action figure on his blog and also the behind the scenes video below if you wish to create an action figure of your own. Kudos to him for a great idea and thinking outside of the marketing box.

So, what’s your next creative marketing idea? Can you top Jens and his legion of marketing soldiers?

Wow! What a great idea. I’ve always wanted an action figure of myself or even a photographer! I’m sure this will get him heaps of exposure!!

Great idea. It just shows how creative this guy is. It’s so much more than a business card which is so easily forgotten. How can one forget a detailed figurine in a cool box like this ? The humorous logos behind the box are another awesome idea.

Haha … now this is a new way of self promotion. Cheesy or not … it is very creative. And that is what counts! He definitely gets lots of coverage for this idea … so it already worked without even handing out one of his little figurines … :-).

This is soo awesome! This is way better than a bobble head. I want to make one for myself just for fun!

I want a bobble head too! Then I’d just sit at my desk and play all day instead of work :)

This is so creative, I’d hire him just because of this idea. I like that there are samples of his work inside. it would definitely make me bother to take the time to look at everything, and every time I saw the little figure I would think of him again, — and I would show it off to my friends and family– so from a purely advertising standpoint, yes, brilliant.

Just kidding, when i saw how much material they used to package the action figures i wasnt very happy… But we DID drive every piece of waste to the recycling station!

Haha. Always thinking of others! Well, I love the idea and the entire thing. I want my own action figure. Not for marketing purposes either. Just because I’m vain ;)

Pretty cool….. but looks like an environmental nightmare though…. not sure why they couldn’t get the manufacturer to box it for them instead of the 2 box process…. well lets hope they recycled it all….
