One year ago, on New Year’s Eve, Danielle Bruckman lost her iPhone. It somehow ended up in the hands of “Mustache Man,” who didn’t turn off the cloud sync function and Danielle now gets copies of all his photos – all 250+ of them.
Oxford’s word of the year was “Selfies” and “Mr. Mustache Man,” whom Danielle refers to as “My Cloud Pal,” has embraced the trend most wholeheartedly. Of the 250+ photos, a majority of them are of himself and his very cool mustache. Danielle’s new pal has had quite a year. He went on a diet, and started going to the gym (He looks great, by the way). She knows most of his contacts, knows where he works and, of course, sees his mustache in this almost daily “selfie diary.”
Danielle then did what anyone else would do in this situation. She started a blog where she recreates some of the selfies her pal has taken, mustache and all. Dubbed, “An (In)appropriation piece: This is one woman’s journey, through another man’s selfies” Danielle’s entries are hilarious and a little creepy all at the same time.
Now, Danielle has invited anyone else with a “Cloud Pal” to send her their selfies with the possibility of her re-creating them, too. Check out her Tumblr with an epic collage of recreated James Franco selfies.
And this New Years, if you’re going to lose your phone, please, for the sake of entertainment, turn the on the cloud feature. It would totally be worth the photos you might get.
