Ask just about anyone about action cameras and GoPro will be the name that comes up. But popularity aside, there are actually some pretty good competitors out there for GoPro these days. That in mind, Gizmodo recently decided to test 6 of the latest action cam models against each other to see if GoPro is still the king of the hill.
Cameras tested:
- GoPro Hero 3+ Black
- Sony Action Cam 2 (HDR-AS30V)
- JVC Adixxion GC-XA2
- Garmin VIRB Elite
- Drift Ghost-S
- Ion Air Pro 3

The results are somewhat disappointing in that the GoPro, indeed, still leads the pack. But I was very impressed by some of the other options out there. Especially that JVC model that came in second. It looks to me like these companies are catching up pretty quickly to GoPro, and it will be interesting to see what the king of action cameras does to try and stay on top.
Will they go the way of Apple and continue to thrive in what they do, or will they go the way of Blackberry and be left behind? Any answer to that is a ways off yet, but if you want to see the results of the Gizmodo testing go ahead and head on over to their review page for the full details (it was a pretty extensive test).

I think that the Sony should’ve come in second, it was waayyyy better than the GoPro in terms of sound, and still had a nice wide FOV
Where is the ISAW EXTREME ?
The ion was clearly on par with the go pro and have much better sound. The Garmin was pure garbage.
