Nikon’s Special Edition Gold Df Now Selling for $3,525 on eBay!

By Anthony Thurston on December 3rd 2014

Remember that special gold Df that Nikon announced a short while back? The same one that was only going to be available in Japan? Well, for those of you who were bummed out by that fact can now rejoice. Some opportunistic individuals in the land of the rising sun bought some extras, and are putting them up for sale on eBay.

It was only a matter of time until some of these ended up on the online auction website, but let’s be real, this is not being done out of the kindness of their hearts. These units are being sold an quite a nice premium. $3,525 to be exact, which is over $700 more than the regular Nikon Df on B&H.

Before those of you interested go blasting off to eBay, just remember to be cautious of these sorts of things. Do your research on the seller before buying anything. I have personally never once had an issue on eBay with not getting what I ordered, but I know people who have and it is a real pain. eBay is plenty safe most of the time, just always use common sense and wariness, especially in cases like this with a special edition item.

You can find the special edition Gold Df on eBay here. For the rest of you, the good ol’ regular model is still available on B&H for $2746.

If a contractor shows up at my house with a beautiful set of gold equipment looking for work…. I would never let him in my house! Same goes with photographers. Things like this should be a trophy given by Nikon to honor someone who has accomplished something great in the photography field and not for anyone who think they deserve to be special just because they got money (or credit, or stock, or oil…).

That been said…. I wonder when Stanley will bring out their gold edition Fiberglass Hammer…..! LOL!!

Again, par for the course considering Nikon’s long-standing history and collectors’ affection towards their traditions. I’m still surprised they didn’t make one that was lizard-skinned or entirely gold-plated, like they’ve done in the past.

For those who don’t understand something like this, just keep in mind that collectors are quirky people with money, that’s all. Some guys spend way too much money on their motorcycles, or their trucks, or their guns, or whatever their toy of choice is. And in a world where Leica can get away with slapping their luxurious designs on a Panasonic (?) camera and mark it up by thousands of dollars, …I’d say this DF is a pretty modest celebration of Nikon’s rich history in camera making. I’d love to have one of these on my shelf, and to take it out for a spin every now and then! …Maybe when I have a mid-life crisis, I’ll get this instead of a Harley.
