Zeiss Otus 24mm Coming Next Month
Zeiss has knocked it out of the park with their Otus series of lenses in terms of sheer build quality and optical image quality. Not many of us can enjoy these lenses due to their exorbitant price tag, but that does not diminish the fact these lenses are incredible.
It now looks like we will be getting another addition to the Otus family of lenses next month. If the rumors are to be believed, Zeiss will be announcing a new 24mm Otus lens by the end of September.
While I personally can’t afford – or I should say, choose not to afford – the Otus series of lenses, I am still excited for this announcement. I have always been a fan of Zeiss glass, and these Otus lenses are just beautiful hunks of it. I look forward to seeing how it stacks up to other quality 24mm lenses on the market like the Sigma 24mm F/1.4.
Canon EOS-1D X Firmware Update Inbound
According to the latest Canon buzz, it sounds like a firmware update for the EOS-1D X could be coming down the pipe. A user on a Canon forum received a firmware 2.0.8 after sending his camera into Canon though the latest public firmware from Canon is 2.0.7.
There is no word yet on what updates could be part of this firmware. But if Canon is installing it on bodies being sent to the service center than it is likely done or at the very least very close to being done. This means that a public release could be coming at any time.
What issues or features would you like to see fixed/added to the EOS-1D X via this firmware update?
Olympus OM-D E-M10 Coming By The End Of this Month
According to the latest on the Olympus side of the rumor mill, the OM-D E-M10 II will be announced in the last week of August. As we have mentioned previously, it is not expected to be anything too special other than an updated E-M10 with a better sensor and an electronic sensor.
Still, fans of the Olympus M4/3 offerings should be happy to have another camera to choose from. If you were expecting more from the E-M10, don’t fear, their new flagship OM-D E-M1 II is expected sometime towards the end of this year or next year, and that camera is expected to be something special.
What would you like to see in this upcoming E-M10 II and the farther out, but coming, E-M1 II?

hmm.. I thought they were focusing on the portrait focal lengths, I expected either a 100mm or 35mm. I’d kill for an 85mm otus .. just wish it was half the price. Really hard to justify 4k on an 85mm lens or 55mm lens.
If you want an Otus quality portrait lens, their 135mm f2 APO fits the bill nicely, at around $2k. Significantly longer than the current Otus lenses, but almost flawless optically and 135mm is arguably ideal for portraiture.
