New Nikon DSLR Compatible GPS Units Now Available

By Anthony Thurston on May 25th 2013

Hong Kong based di-GPS has introduced two new GPS units compatible with Nikon DSLRs. One unit is designed for professional style DSLRs, and one is for Consumer/Prosumer level DSLRs.

The professional model, the di-GPS Eco ProFessional (Pro-F), is weather sealed and uses only 19 mA (about 1/3rd of Nikons GP-1 unit). The unit is also very small when compared to Nikon’s own GP-1 unit. The Eco Pro-F is compatible with the Nikon D4, D3, D3S, D3X, D700, D800, D800E, D300, D300s, D2XS, D2X, D2HS, and D200 DSLR bodies.

The Consumer model, the di-GPS Eco ProSumer (Pro-S), is not weather sealed but does also have the same low power and low profile traits of its professional brother. The Pro-S model is compatible with Nikon D600, D7000, D7100, D5000, D5100, D5200 D3100, D3200 and Coolpix P7700 cameras.

I’ve still not found a reason to use GPS in photography. I see all the controversy about whether the new models have it or not but very little about anyone using it. Am I missing something?
