Nikon said they were working on a D4s a few weeks back at CES, but they released no details on the new body. There has been much speculation over the last several weeks, but today, some solid rumors have surfaced indicating some specs and a possible announcement coming soon.
[REWIND: Nikon Announced D4s Development]
According to the rumors, first reported over on Nikon Rumors, the new D4s will likely be announced next week. Among the things not being changed are the sensor, which will remain the same as the 16mp sensor in the original D4, and the price, which will also remain the same as the the original D4.
Rumored Nikon D4s Specs
- New focus mode: now can use 3D-Tracking in 9 or 21 points group
- Native ISO: 100-25,600
- Improved time-lapse movie recording: can change interval shutter in 1/6 stop (adjustable)
- White balance can be fine tuned by 0.25-0.50 Kelvin
- You can adjust the color tone of the camera LCD screen
- HD movie at 60 fps/1080p
- Small change in the body design
The rumor also states that they expect the camera to start shipping in March or April, so it is not too far off for those interested in picking one up. The tracking and white balance improvements are interesting to me, it would be nuts to have that sort of control over the white balance in camera.
What are your thoughts on these rumored specs? Does it look like a quality upgrade over the D4 or do you see most D4 owners keeping what they have? Share your thoughts in a comment below to join the discussion.
