New 90 degree Spy Lens for Smartphones

By Anthony Thurston on September 9th 2013

Have you ever wanted to take a picture with your smartphone without alerting your subject to what you are doing? I can’t say I have more than a handful of times, but for those of you voyeurs out there you may want to check out this contraption.

PhotoJojo is selling a new smartphone attachment they are calling “The Smartphone Spy Lens: A 90° Periscoping Lens”. The premise is simple enough, using mirrors you are able to take a picture form an angle that would otherwise be very difficult or impossible with normal smartphone operation.

The Smartphone Spy Lens is a tiny gizmo you attach to your phone to take photos at a 90° angle. You can slyly hold your phone in texting position, while photoing straight ahead!

According to the description the device is made up of high quality glass and a mirrored interior that insures that no quality loss for the images you take with the device. It is attached to your phone with a small metal ring that you place around your phone’s camera, which is magnetic and allows the spy lens to attach and detach with ease (but not too easy). The device can also be rotated 360° which gives you great flexibility in deciding where to point your spy lens.

In the end I feel like it s sort of one of those gimmicky phone accessories that you buy and never use, but the spy lens only costs$20 so in reality its not all that much of a money-sink. Who knows though, maybe there is a private investigator out there who thinks this is the coolest thing since sliced bread. If you are interested in learning more about this device or maybe purchasing one yourself you can do so over on the Photojojo store.

What are your thoughts? Is this a neat accessory or a silly gimmick? Let us know in a comment below.

    To Whom it may concern

I need the phone standing upright to take a photo of an identity document (65x110mm) which is flat on the table. The lense on the camera is 115 mm from the base. Will the spy cam be able to do this ?

    I would really appreciate a response .

If you want to get caught then you go and buy this spy lens. Is like freaking obvious, might as well to tell the subject “I am going to take a picture of you”, and that is it.
