We always love to come across a story that reminds us that the industry we work in, as superficial as it can sometimes appear on the surface, has some wonderfully heart-warming moments.

Enthusiastic and playful 17-year-old Karrie Brown has just landed the job of her dreams: modeling for her favorite store, Wet Seal.

But it wasn’t through her modeling agent or casting calls. It is all thanks to her mother and Facebook. Sue, Karrie’s mother, would update her Facebook page, Karrie Brown – Modeling the Future, with enthusiastic pictures of Karrie in her favorite Wet Seal outfits. It eventually caught the company’s eye and the retailer issued a challenge.

We then asked our fans to get Karrie’s Facebook page to 10k likes and we would give her the trip of a lifetime. She exceeded this goal in two days.

Karrie is a beautiful young woman with Down syndrome that doesn’t let much stand in the way of her passions, which include fashion and Justin Bieber. It is easy to see where her positive energy comes from.

Recently her mother posted a great update to the site that addresses some key points surrounding Karrie and her accomplishments.

I have always explained it this way…I have two daughters. One has freckles, the other has Down syndrome. I don’t call my oldest my freckle daughter, just as I don’t call my youngest my Down syndrome daughter. These are characteristics that help describe some of my daughters’ traits, but certainly do not define who they are. While I don’t want to seem that I am downplaying the seriousness of the medical aspects and challenges Karrie faces, I want people to know I see her as a person first!!

Needless to say, Wet Seal honored its promise and flew Karrie and Sue on an all-expenses paid trip to Los Angeles, with a bonus trip to Disneyland.

The special photo shoot is set to be released on Wet Seal’s website and social networks soon.

Until Next Time . . .

Stay Inspired ~ Jules
