Leica S To Be Announced At Photokina In September, Complete with CMOS & 4K
It’s not often that we feature Leica rumors, but today we have a good one for you. According to a report over on Leica Rumors, Leica is set to announce a new Leica S Medium Format camera at Photokina this upcoming September.
The report is based on a conversation directly with Leica reps in which they state that the Leica S will come with a 40-50mp CMOS sensor, and be capable of shooting 4K video. Specs are few and far between otherwise, but the prospect of an uber-expensive Leica medium format is sure to have the gear snobs of the world drooling.
The addition of CMOS sensors has been the medium format market’s buzz word this year since the announcement of the Hassleblad and Phase One medium format bodies sporting the new Sony sensor. It will be interesting to see how this all plays out, and if more people start to adopt medium format systems.
