Do you have any of those collapsible backdrops? You know, the ones that fold up into the circle shape, similar to the 5-in-1 reflectors. Well, if you do, then you know how much of a pain it can be to hook them to a stand sometimes. Luckily for you, Lastolite has developed a new Magnetic Backdrop Support (MBS) which aims at eliminating this issue.
The new patent-pending design looks simple enough, and consists of a curved bar with special magnets on both ends. The whole unit then attaches to any light stand that you may have lying around. Once assembled and attached to a light stand, the unit is ready to hold your collapsible backdrop in place without any fuss.
Lastolite makes several collapsible backdrops that will work with this, but the unit will also work with most other brands as well – including those cheap knockoff brands from Amazon and Ebay. It probably even works with the rectangular 5-in-1 reflectors too, which means you could also use this to help light your shot without needing an assistant.

The price for these new units is not yet available, but they will be available from the Lastolite store, as well as other retailers. If you would like to learn more about these pretty neat units you can head on over to the product page on the Lastolite website.

Oh man that’s clever, I’m surprised it hasn’t been done yet. I guess I’ll have to reward the ingenuity with my money :( This is a bitter sweet moment…
Yeah, its seems so obvious you have to wonder why it wasn’t thought of sooner. haha
