La Femme Fatale – BTS Fashion Photo Shoot with Julia Kuzmenko McKim

By Jules Ebe on July 18th 2013

The mysterious and dangerous femme fatale has been inspiring artists well before film noir – yet the glamour and appeal of the roaring twenties blends well with her fatal allure. In a recent fashion editorial, photographer Julia Kuzmenko McKim gives us a taste of this fierce persona and we are left wanting more.

You can also sneak a peek at a few of the lighting set-ups she used on this location shoot at the Magnolia Hotel in the video below.

Perfect lighting and some portraits are just perfect in my opinion.

I like it. And plus it’s what the CLIENT wants NOT you, not other trolls. Obviously your opinion is still valid but tell that to the CLIENT that wanted that style of images to begin with. Clearly they wouldn’t have chosen her if they felt the same as you.

There’s a fine line between perfect and overworked that’s easy to cross.
These photographs are a perfect example of the latter.
They might as well just be renderings from a 3D program, as all life has been carefully removed leaving nothing but caricatures of what was once a beautiful face.
Interesting work, but, not knowing when to stop “retouching” is killing the work.

I don’t see a lot of “BTS”. Like photographer-model-makeup_artists interaction or light placements or description of the gear…. I heard a song through out which was nice.

The final images were really cool though.

Femme fatale? The poor lady looks more dead than femme.

That’s awesome! The client’s brief was “…we are leaning towards 20s/30s inspired hair with a modern twist and having the shoot be more avant garde and a little darker… haunted hotel… time-traveler.. as if she was a ghost of a lady who stayed at the hotel a long time ago”.

We must have nailed that part, thank you :)
