JVC Announces New ADIXXION GC-XA2 Action Camera

By Anthony Thurston on July 12th 2013

JVC has announced their latest GoPro alternative action camera, the ADIXXION GC-XA2, and while the name might be a mouthful the features are nothing to scoff at. The GC-XA2 is the second edition of JVC’s ADIXXION action camera brand aimed at giving GoPro a run for its money.

This new edition boasts some impressive new features including 1080p Progressive HD recording at 56/60 frames per second, high speed recording at 120 frames per second in 720p mode. That allows for up to 4x slow motion playback, pretty awesome if you ask me. Other upgrades over the previous version include a better and brighter lens, improved image stabilization, higher resolution LCD monitor, auto off and auto brightness settings, higher resolution image sensor, a higher audio bit rate, and improved noise reduction.

That sure is a lot crammed into such a small device, and at only $299 the GC-XA2 is priced right where it needs to be to compete with the GoPro Hero cameras. This new GC-XA2 will begin shipping later this month, and can be pre-ordered through B&H starting right away!

Key Specs:

  • Full HD 1920 x 1080p Video at 60 fps

  • Capture 16MP Ultra Resolution Photos

  • Back-Illuminated 8MP CMOS Image Sensor

  • Waterproof to Down to a Depth of 16.4′

  • Shockproof from Falls up to 6.5′

No matter how good it is it will not unseat GoPro. All you have to do is go to any moto/sporting event and look at the GoPro videographers present. The younger generation grabbed this and ran all the way to the bank for GoPro.

Specs are pretty impressive, but I’ve seen some samples and the gopro looks cinematic while the JVC looks like regular handycam, harsh video.
Smooth gradients and wide DR can’t be beat by price. JVC looks a tad sharper though, but I would say that’s achieved with in-camera sharpening, and we all know that’s never good.

How do you get 16MP images from an 8MP sensor? Still, this looks pretty impressive. The GoPro doesn’t have an LCD to see what you’re shooting, so already this is a nice improvement.

I’m using the GoPro Hero3 Black edition, and if you think about it, you don’t really need a screen most of the times because most of the times you mount it in a place where only the camera could be!

I just use the app to check my frame and all that! And they have the additional touch screen, yea you have yo pay a bit more, but it’s GoPro! Hahaa

Not to mention that it shoots 4K!

Any chance you could compare a few of these heavy-duty on-the-go cams side by side for us? I’d love a little more detail =].
