Incredible Video By British Pathé Uncovers The First Hundred Years Of Photography

By Michelle Bird on April 29th 2014

Not too long ago, the British Pathé uploaded its entire 85,000 archive full of vintage video captures to YouTube. One of the first ones was The First Hundred Years!

It had been 100 years since the first camera took light, something that would change the world forever as we know it. In 1939, British Pathé decided to celebrate just that, compiling an amazing video that looked back at how photography had transformed the world as a whole and how the art of capturing an image had evolved through those years; highlighting the most important advancements, from photographs of early pioneers to the birth of the cine camera.

To imagine a world without photography is utterly impossible, capturing a moment in time, introducing us to new fascinating things, connecting the world through one’s lens. This short two-minute video will not only fascinate you, but will also make you wonder, what the future holds. If those folks were alive today, what would they think of our digital age?

We used to get newreels like this before our movies.
Now all we get is 20 minutes of ads for popcorn, candy, soft drinks, and more movies.
