Being a Pentax shooter, it’s nice to see deals like this come around. I personally won’t be doing the upgrade, as my K5IIs is working well for me at this point. Perhaps the next major model will spark my interest.
I’m looking to make the switch away from Canon as I’m a bit unimpressed with them in recent years. Might have to give Pentax a go. I hear nothing but good things about them.
Matt, If you’re a low-ISO shooter who doesn’t need the full-frame advantage of ISO-bazillion, then the K-3 is honestly the absolute best camera on the market right now. And even if Canon develops a 7D mk2, or if Nikon develops a D300s replacement, neither camera will have things like in-body stabilization, let alone the astrophotography option thingie with their GPS unit! The K-3, simply put, is the adventure photographer’s dream camera. By a long shot!
It’s nice to see this website take notice of other brands besides canikon. Kudos!
If I was US based, I’d jump all over this! The K3 (and Pentax generally) are excellent – it’s such a shame that they don’t get much of a look-in nowadays. Pentax made some absolutely fabulous lenses for lower prices than the competitors.
Give them a chance, this is a stellar camera!
Thanks for the alert. You may want to try a Pentax Camera some time. The ergonomics and menu systems are amazing. If nothing else, everyne deserves to shoot film on a K1000, or other Pentax manual focus film slr, at least once.
Dain, I was the one who reviewed the Pentax K-3 for SLR Lounge, and I must say, I do agree with you! That camera is downright amazing, and especially for the price. Offering in-body stabilization, and in-body AF for those tiny little primes, …I’m really getting on board with this system! If I had just a little more money, I’d invest in a K-3 plus a few lenses. Especially for the purpose of astro-landscape photography!
