How to Create and Manage Snapshots in Lightroom 3
(The Lightroom video tutorial in this post is just under the introductory text below. The working files for this Lightroom video tutorial can be found just above the video.)
Snapshots are a very useful feature in Lightroom 3. Snapshots are saved states of an image’s develop settings at any one point in time. You can create Snapshots to compare similar develop styles on a single image, or to create completely different develop settings for one single image.
There are a couple features that make Snapshots unique from other similar Lightroom features which I wanted to describe prior to getting to the Lightroom video tutorial:
1) Snapshots are saved to each image – Unlike Presets, saving a Snapshot for one image, doesn’t make that Snapshot available on other images. If you want to save develop settings for use on other images, then Presets must be used.
2) Only the active snapshot exports with an image – When exporting, only the active settings on the image are exported. For example, if an image has 5 Snapshots, only the current settings applied to that image are exported. If you wish to export multiple versions of a single photo, you are better off using Virtual Copies.
In this Lightroom video tutorial we will be teaching you how to create and manage your Snapshots. Enjoy!
