GoPro Captures Base-Jumper’s Terrifying Collision and Fall

By Anthony Thurston on December 6th 2013

Action cameras like the GoPro Hero 3+ have captured some crazy things over the years, from birds and other animals trying to steal them to amazing sports tricks. But in all that time, I have not seen anything quite like this. I am extremely scared of heights, so base-jumping is not anything that I would ever do… and after watching this I can say for sure that it is something that I will never be doing.

As you can see, minus the fun music, this must have been a terrifying experience. I am honestly squirming in my seat watching it, I will probably have nightmares about falling like this tonight – no joke.

The fall captured in this video resulted in several serious injuries as documented here in the video description:

Compression Fracture of the T12 Vertebra, 5 stitches to the eye, 6 stitches to the chin, severely sprained Back, wrist and hand. multiple bruised areas.

What a world we live in huh? 10 or twenty years ago a fall like this could only have been captured with expensive cameras or by some guy with a small video recorder on the ground. Now we get to see this guy fall, lucky to still be breathing, from not one or two but THREE different angles.

I am curious how many of you out there squirm watching this like I just did. How many of you out there are base-jumpers? Share your thoughts in a comment below!

Watched it 3 times… I feel terrified. I’ve done some skydiving and watching this video really gives me the chills!

And I think that hitting that first rock sticking out was like finding a needle in a haystack… in the worse way!

    Hope he gets well!

agreed! I am honestly surprised he was alive to post the video. Guess the rock wall an d parachute slowed him down just enough to keep it from being fatal. insane indeed.
