There have been rumors floating about for a while now about a 4K Panasonic GH camera, and now according to the latest round the new DSLR is expected to be announced and released in the first half of 2014.
According to the report on 4/3 Rumors this new rumor has been confirmed by two separate sources, both indicating that the long rumored Panasonic GH 4K camera would be announced and released in the first half 2014. Spec on the camera are still unknown, but a rumored spec list (as seen below) was said to be pretty close to the actual camera specs.
Rumored Panasonic GH 4K Specs
- 1/8000 shutter
- 1mil dot OLED screen
- 21mm OLED viewfinder, 3,000+ dot.
- Time code
- 200mbps mp4 All-i/100mbps IPB
- 4:2:2 10/8bit output
- 3G-SDI and XLR adaptor (An adaptor that the camera sits on with XLR x2, HD-SDI x4)
- Price: €2799 (3739.46 US)
Phew, that is a pricey dslr… but if you look at the specs you can see why. Not only is the GH 4K allowing you to shoot in 4K but it looks as if it will be in a pretty high quality 4:2:2 10 bit 200mbps All-i codec. The addition of XLR inputs is neat as well.
It is out of my price range I can tell you that, but I am sure that some of you are drooling over this GH 4K camera. This is obviously aimed at videographers more than photographers, but I am sure that its photo capabilities will be as good or better than the current crop of Panasonic GH cameras.
I am really curious about your thoughts on this camera, do you think the specs justify the cost? Is 30FPS 4K video enough to make you part ways with close to $4,000? Share your thoughts in a comment below.
