Fujifilm XF 90mm F/2.0 Macro Lens Leaks Ahead of Announcement

By Anthony Thurston on May 12th 2015

Fujifilm‘s upcoming lens release, which we have been hearing is coming May 18th, has leaked online. Though the lens itself will likely not surprise many who pay attention to Fujifilm‘s lens roadmap.

The new 90mm F/2.0 Macro lens will feature a circular aperture behind a lens design that includes 11 elements in 8 groupings, making use of three ED glass elements. The macro lens will also be dust and water resistant, and feature a 62mm filter thread.

We don’t have any word yet on the pricing or availability of the upcoming lens, but no doubt that information will be available on the 18th (this upcoming Monday). The leaked X-T10 is also expected to be announced on the 18th along with this new XF 90mm F/2.0 Macro lens.

I feel like a 90mm Macro lens is a great prime lens choice from Fuji. The 90mm focal length is both far enough for macro photography that you will not need to be right up on top of your subject, and it is also very similar in FOV to the ever popular 85mm focal length, making this a great portrait lens as well. It looks to be a great multi-purpose offering from Fuji.

Stay tuned and we will keep you updated on any more Fuji rumors that break ahead of the expected announcement on May 18th.

If you check with the lens roadmap that was previously updated in February (http://www.fujifilm.com/products/digital_cameras/xf_lens/roadmap/) and now with the release of the lens you’ll note that the 90mm is not a macro lens. The new macro lens is the 120mm to be released in 2016.

Wonder how this will compare to my all time favourite lens Canon’s 135 F2 L probably nothing like it…

f/2 on crop won’t melt the background like f/2 on FF, but the new lens very well could be sharper. The 135L is a legendary piece of kit but it is 19 years old now, so anything is possible.

It might melt the background if you move it far far away :) That 135L is mighty on my 5D3 I really like shooting with it.

Would love that lens, but I have the 100L and 70-200 f/2.8L II, so I can’t really justify it. So I end up circling the Canon refurb store and waiting for CPW to notify me of a 20% off sale.

That lens (alongside some other L primes) usually sells out in seconds when those sales happen.

So it’s a 135 f/2 in FF terms (crop max aperture differences notwithstanding). That’s gold for portraiture.

Do all Fuji lenses have a weird “this photo has been altered” vibe coming from above the aperture ring? Looks painted over or badly photoshopped — shouldn’t that real estate have a distance scale, macro distance focus limiter switches, etc.?
