There is something to be said about Fuji and their X-Series roadmap. The security it brings you and knowing what is going to be released is a unique feeling in this industry. Last night, Fuji unveiled their latest roadmap update, and it revealed some gems that are coming our way soon.
Fujifulm X-Series Roadmap Update
As you can see above, the new additions are the 1.4x Teleconverter, 35mm F/2, 120mm F/2.8 Macro, and 100-400mm. I don’t know where to begin; they all get me rather excited.
The 100-400mm will be great for me personally, because I love wildlife and shooting sports, so this will give me the reach I need to do some more of that. I am also really excited about the 120mm Macro because I am a bit of a macro junkie (we will have to see if it can replace my trusty Olympus 50mm F/3.5 macro lens).
The teleconverter is great too; it means that when I save up enough pennies for the 50-140mm, I will be able to get some extra reach out of it (and knowing Fuji, with great quality too).
The only lens that doesn’t have me super excited is the 35mm F/2. I think that people with smaller bodies may like this lens, but with me, on my X-T1, I may prefer the F/1.4. Still, maybe if the AF on the new 35mm F/2 blows the F/1.4 version away, I may have to change my shopping list.

Looking forward to the 16mm, would love to try and test it out.
nice one
It would be nice to link to a non-tiny version of the roadmap image so I don’t have to squint to read it.
Don’t forget the 16mm f/1.4!!!! That could be good for low-light landscape photo / timelapse purposes…
=Matt=
Yeah, that should be a good one as well Matt!
I’m curious about the extender.
It has been rumored that the 16-55 and the 50-140 lenses (both at f/2.8) might also be compatible with an upcoming FF camera.
The 1.4 extender, on both lenses, gives focal lengths that are pretty close to the standard 24-70 and 70-200 seen on FF lenses.
Do you think it’s release is an indication that Fuji might come up with a FF camera?
However, I read the X mount would not enable support for FF but I’m not sure.
I don’t think we will be seeing a FF camera from Fuji anytime soon. I think they would be stupid to not be working on it for the future, but I think for now they are content with the X-Series as is.
Well maybe not soon or upcoming but if they’re already preparing it, then I could easily live with it for a few years knowing I wouldn’t have to buy into a completely new system/mount if or when they decide to make the jump.
I love the 100-400 idea, but I’m also eyeing that 90mm (135) f/2 for portrait work.
