The idea came one night as many good ideas do – after a few drinks with a friend. While joking around, Katlin Kelly lamented how she had all these great photos of herself on her hard drive, ruined and unusable because her ex was in all of them. Her friend jokingly said, Uh, dude, you should just super-realistically Photoshop them out.”
Kaitlin, who is an infrared, landscape and city photographer, who uses Photoshop on a regular basis (typically for more “higher brow” post-production), decided that instead of just clone stamping the ex out entirely, she’d replace him for someone way more interesting, like “Fifty Shades of Grey” actor, Jamie Dornan.

Kaitlin had a good laugh and even said the process was cathartic, helping her forget some of the bad memories with the silly exercise. She posted the images online. Soon, people were contacting her asking Kaitlin to do their photos as well. Kaitlin tells Mic, “It’s not the most original idea, and I never was trying to fool anybody with the photos — some people have thought they were real, which is a delight — but because they do look realistic, to me it makes it funnier than your standard cut-and-paste job. I posted them online, and it just exploded.”
Since then, Kaitlin has received hundreds of emails with stories about broken relationships and horrible exes, and people asking about pricing for her services. If you have an ex you’d like to annex, you can find Kaitlin via her website here. She tells Huff Post that she’s in the process of setting up an Etsy shop dedicated to this new, hilarious branch of her photography business.
