It’s just the world that we live in today – virtually no product is announced out of the blue. They are preceded by rumors and ‘leaks’ to the point that by the time most imagined products are announced these days, we already know 80-90% of what the product will offer.
The first image of the soon to be announced Olympus E-PL7 has surfaced online, and I have to say, for a camera I am not personally interested in too much, it looks pretty slick. The camera, like many these days, takes its styling inspiration from the old days of manual focus slr cameras.

Basically, this is the Olympus OM-D E-M10 without the viewfinder, which sounds like a pretty beastly camera to me. According to the rumors, this will be the only PEN camera from Olympus this year. This camera’s success will come down to pricing, in my opinion. Priced right and these could sell like hot cakes, too high and they could go the way of the Canon EOS-M.

The more I keep seeing all these mirror less cameras the more I want one for travelling with. I just wish nikon would produce something that’s up there with the Fuji cameras so I can use the same lenses
Nikon already has a mirrorless system. Using SLR lenses with mirrorless systems isn’t such a great idea because of the size difference. I have a Nikon 1 AW1 that I bought for underwater stuff but I also got adapters to use with my EF lenses outside the water. Very ungainly set up in my experience. Much better balance with C-mount lenses but the quality of those lenses isn’t that good.
Anyway, Fuji earned their reputation on both their bodies and lenses so if you’re looking to break into the mirrorless scene, you may be better off going Fuji all the way.
Good to know Phil thanks.
I do know what you mean, Greg. I wish Nikon would get around to putting their D5300, Df and D810 sensors into (DX and FX) mirrorless cameras. They can easily continue to support their existing systems while developing a new lineup, if they make adapters compact and affordable for regular AFS-G lenses, at the very least. (And of course for all the manual focus shooters out there who are already using A-S lenses on their DSLRs, they’ll have an even cheaper adapter and that should be a blast!)
Ahh man now I’m drooling over an “M810” with an old AIS 20mm f/4, man Galen Rowell would go nuts with that!!!
Hey Matt
I’m imagining the Disneyworld pictures I’d get with a mirrorless camera that had the D810 sensor inside :)
I keep looking at the fuji’s but I’m holding back for now and using a D800 for the Disney photos :)
You’ll be on holiday, Greg. Why torture yourself with all that weight when most of your shots will be taken under the crappiest conditions – either harsh sunlight or dark interiors with lots of flashing lights to fool your meter?
Hi Phil
Yea I hear what you’re saying but I want the best version of my family holiday photos I can get :) I sti
Oops hit send early. I still shot them as raws and post produce them all :)
16mp seems like the sweet spot for a lot of mirror-less nowadays…
