‘Filter Fakers’ catches Instagram users who try fake #nofilter Tags

By Anthony Thurston on July 1st 2013

Have you ever seen a Instagram image tagged with #nofilter that sort of make you go “uh huh… yeah right”. Now there is a Tumblr blog out there to help you call your friends out for trying to pull a fast one on you.

Fake Filters is a new Tumblr site that focuses on outing people who used filters on their instagram photos but still tag their shots as #nofilter. While its not known how the site is determining if images are fakes, you can check images for yourself on their site.

Personally I think its pretty funny that these people feel the need to out people for using a hashtag incorrectly. Ill bet half of the people who use it incorrectly do not even know what the proper use is. That said, if you have ever wanted to call out your “posts on instagram way too much” friend, then this may be the site for you.

If you want to give it a shot you can head over to the website here. I’ve tried it on a few of my friends images, but have yet to find a true faker. Ill keep looking, i’m just waiting to find someone to call out!

Really ? does anybody care if an instagram user uses a filter or not?

Sounds a bit instagram elitist to me. what they should create is something entertaining like “Stupid Duck Face Pose Idiots” now that would be entertaining.

I agree it is somewhat of a waste of time but, I use instagram pretty regularly and as a photographer, there are so many ways you can use a phone to take a great photo- after looking at this tumblr, I’d say some of these actually look like they didn’t use a filter. I’m curious to know if they are getting actual data or if they are just guessing….

This is the stupidest thing I have ever seen. How about just outing people for using Instagram in general and/or those who take hashtags seriously? Here’s the hashtag for those people #stopwastingyourtimeandgetajob.
