Filming in the Fetal Position: BTS of the One Take Music Video ‘Saramona Said’

By Hanssie on August 20th 2014

Behind the scenes videos interest me because I like to see how the movie magic works and I’m kind of nosy. It fascinates me to see how the process unfolds to create the final polished image, especially when the production is low budget and full of DIY hacks.

The following behind the scenes video, Filming in the Fetal, position was made by an Australian production company and one of the most entertaining bts videos I’ve come across. Bonus, it’s also quite an informative look at filmmaking on a budget. The team at Graetzmedia recently completed a music video for Violent Soho’s song ‘Saramona Said.’ The BTS videos gives some fast paced and humorous insight on the thought processes and decision making that happened on set during filming. And who can resist a video that starts with:

Why am I in the boot of a car underneath skateboards and dirty clothes, filming in the fetal position?

The final product looks like a big budget production, though it’s not and it was done in only one long take thanks to the collaboration of numerous like-minded creative people who pulled together and got “all MacGyver on its ass.” From building a custom “sun roof” for the car so they can mount a few roof racks to all the other mishaps and outtakes that happened on set, this entertaining look at the making of the music video is a testament to the ingenuity of a group of determined creatives on a very tight budget.

Great work Hanssie! I love watching the creative elements come to the surface when there’s minimal budget to work with.
Also, as an Australian living in the USA I can’t tell you how much I loved hearing him say ‘boot’ instead of ‘trunk’ :)
