Edit Photos Anywhere with Photoshop Touch for Iphone/Android

By Anthony Thurston on February 27th 2013

Have you ever wanted greater control over editing photos on your phone? In the past that meant emailing low-res files via email or removing the phones micro-sd card and fiddling with an adapter to get the image to your computer. Needless to say that in most cases it was more trouble than it was worth. Adobe is happy to say that you no longer have to do that — unless you want to.

Photoshop Touch

Today Adobe announced that they are releasing a special version of their Photoshop Touch app(previously only available for tablets) which greatly improves the editing that you can do on your Iphone or Android device. According to Adobe the new app has almost identical features to its tablet app but with an interface much better suited for smaller smart phone screens. You can download it to your phone for the low price of $4.99, not bad for something with photoshop in its name.

Photoshop TouchFor those of you unfamiliar with Photoshop Touch, it is an app for editing photos on your tablet (and now smart phone) that not only boasts many of photoshop’s core features such as layers, adjustments and filters. But also includes some great features like Scribble Selection and Camera Fill only available on the touch app. Photoshop Touch is also connected to Adobe’s Creative Cloud, which means that you can start a project on your phone and finish it on your desktop, or vise verse.

I rarely take photos with my phone that I would deem worthy of taking the time to edit with Photoshop, but this is an attractive option for those rare occasions that I may find that useful. What do you guys think? Would you ever use your phone to edit your work?

I would never use this App for the purpose of taking photos with my phone or for doing real edits on my iPhone or my iPad. Now, what I think this app is perfect for is uploading photos after a shoot and demonstrating with some “quick” edits of what you intend to do with a photo for the client i.e. desaturating or making a photo high contrast to demonstrate a look you intend to portray. Maybe you ride the subway/train home and you would like to work on some ideas or concepts of how you want the photos to look. What this also does is give 1 more reason to purchase creative cloud vs having the software as stand alone on your desktop bc you have more options.

I’d be really interested if this included a capability to use your phone as a dedicated tool selector (or filters, or layers) while working on your desktop.

Not sure If I would ever use this App. Smaller the screen, harder to do post production.
